Student Induction

General Advice

Bad Weather Procedure

If you are uncertain whether the College will be open when it is snowing, either ring in or listen for reports on local radio. Reports which refer to Solihull Local Education Authority schools do not include the College. The College will only close in the most extreme conditions.

Bus Passes

If you are aged between 16-18 years you can apply for a CENTRO ID card allowing you to buy child rate season tickets and fares. To obtain the CENTRO ID card:

  1. Bring your birth certificate or college ID card and one passport photo to Information Centre Reception.
  2. Student Reception staff will hand out an application form and validate it with a college stamp and you should send it to CENTRO with the photo and £5 cheque or postal order.
  3. CENTRO will send your CENTRO ID card direct to your home.
  4. NB - This does not provide you with a bus pass. Bus passes can be obtained from the West Midlands Travel Office in Solihull or Chelmsley Wood.
  5. If you, your partner or parents are in receipt of Social Security benefits or are experiencing any financial difficulties, funding may be available towards the cost of your bus travel.

Car Park Passes

If you travel to college by car you are required to have a parking permit to use college car parks. Passes are issued by Security Staff. Please ask at Reception for further details.

Helpline - 0121 678 7001

The telephone helpline is a service for students who want to contact any of the Student Services for help. We will try to respond to your request when you phone us and if we can't then we will contact the relevant person and get back to you within 48 hours. There will be an answering machine, so calls can be made at any time. Calls are picked up every week day morning.

ID Cards

Students will be photographed and an ID card will be issued following enrolment. You must carry your card at all times when on all campuses. Security staff will ask you to produce your card and if you cannot produce it you may be asked to leave the campus. This is a measure for your own security. Staff are also required to wear identification. The ID card has a bar code on it which enables you to use the library and IT networks.

If you are using a car to travel to the Blossomfield Campus during the day, you will be issued with an ID card that will enable you to access the College car parks.

Mobile Phones

You should make sure that all mobile phones are switched off before you enter:

  • Your Teaching Area
  • College Libraries
  • Learning Centres

Staff reserve the right to ask students not observing this to end the call or take the call elsewhere or at another time.

Photocopying

There are facilities for you to photocopy at both campuses. You will need to buy a special photocopying card from the Library, available at both the Blossomfield and Woodlands campuses.
