Health & Wellbeing
The college provides a Healthy College environment to improve the health and wellbeing of students and staff.
The Benefits of Being a Healthy College
So what does being part of a Healthy College mean for you? We will provide advice and guidance about well-being so you can make decisions about your health.
If you have any ideas or suggestions on how to make the college healthier and happier, please email the Head of Student Services, contact information can be found on the Contact Details page.
How Will You Benefit From Being Part of a Healthy College?
Being a Healthy College means that you:
- Are made aware of health campaigns taking place at College
- Are able to buy healthy food
- Can take part in activities in the community
- Study in a healthy college environment
- Can take part in physical activity
- Get advice and support with your Emotional health and wellbeing
- Have access to sexual health advice and support
The Healthy College Group is looking at all of these aims, what we currently have in place and what we would like to put in place. We will include these in our Health Improvement Strategy. If you have any ideas for things you would like us to include please email Adam Thomas, Head of Student Services.
You can click on the link below to download and view a booklet which explains all the support we currently have in place including access to the College's nurse, counsellor and welfare support services.
We spend a lot of time here in college so we need to be as happy and as healthy as we can possibly be.
Your health and wellbeing are important. Looking after yourself will help you study better and give you more energy.
Combining study with a job or a family or being on a tight budget all take your energy and sometimes take your mind off your own good health and wellbeing. Here are 5 easy rules for 'keeping healthy':
- Eat a balanced diet: the experts recommend five portions of fruit and veg a day and very little sugar or fat
- Get active: 30 minutes energetic cycling or walking a day can be just as healthy as going to the gym
- Get enough sleep: sleep researchers recommend 7-8 hours sleep a night
- Relax and have fun: find time to unwind and do the things you enjoy
- Be moderate: too much alcohol will upset your health, studies and bank balance
You can relax and have fun come in many different ways and they all help us maintain a positive outlook. If you would like to be more active or take part in new activities come and talk to the Student Liaison team who organise a range of sports, trips and volunteering opportunities.
